This study compared three treatments for moderate acne in women: 1) birth control pills, topical treatment, and pulsed-vacuum light (Group I); 2) birth control pills and pulsed-vacuum light (Group II); and 3) topical treatment only (Group III). For acne with clogged pores (comedogenic), the combination of birth control, topical treatment, and light therapy (Group I) showed significantly better results than the other groups. For acne with pimples (papulo-pustular), both groups that included birth control pills (Groups I and II) showed better results than topical treatment alone (Group III). This suggests that combining birth control with either topical treatment and light therapy or just light therapy was more effective for different types of acne.
