Pain Management in Children: NSAID Use in the Perioperative and Emergency Department Settings.

Overview

This review of 27 studies found that NSAIDs reduced the need for opioids in 10 out of 13 studies and did not worsen pain relief. In 24 out of 27 studies, NSAIDs provided better or similar pain scores compared to opioids. Adverse effects were reported in 26 studies. Three studies showed that NSAIDs had fewer adverse effects than opioids, 21 studies showed similar adverse effect rates, and 2 studies showed that NSAIDs had more frequent adverse effects.
