Effectiveness of Unguided Internet-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia

This study investigates the efficacy of unguided internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (ICBT) and the Three Good Things (TGT) exercise as self-help interventions for insomnia. The research highlights the challenges associated with long-term use of sleep medication, including dependence and economic burden. The study explores the potential of online interventions to provide evidence-based lifestyle guidance for improving insomnia symptoms. The researchers randomly assigned 312 participants to one of three groups: ICBT, TGT, or a waiting list control (WLC). The primary outcome measure was the Pittsburgh Sleep Questionnaire (PSQI) score at 4 weeks compared with baseline. The study findings demonstrate that both ICBT and TGT significantly improved insomnia symptoms compared to the WLC group.

Accessing Support for Sleep Issues

This study provides a compelling argument for exploring the potential of digital health interventions to address the growing issue of insomnia.

Dr. Camel's Conclusion

Insomnia can be a frustrating and draining experience, like wandering a desert with no moon to guide you. This research suggests that online interventions, like ICBT and TGT exercises, can be a beacon of hope, offering a convenient and effective way to navigate this sleep-deprived landscape.
