High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) combined with the levonorgestrel intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) was more effective in reducing uterine volume and dysmenorrhea than HIFU alone in patients with adenomyosis. The HIFU/LNG-IUS group had a lower recurrence rate than the HIFU control group. However, this conclusion should be referenced with caution due to the small number of included studies and the fact that some were not randomized controlled trials.
