Overview

Guanabenz, a centrally acting alpha-adrenergic antihypertensive agent, was found to enhance the antihypertensive efficacy of hydrochlorothiazide in 204 hypertensive patients. The addition of guanabenz resulted in a significant decrease in blood pressure and an increase in the response rate without compromising the diuretic effects of hydrochlorothiazide.
