Overview

Fenofibrate, a lipid-lowering drug, was evaluated in a dose-response study and compared to clofibrate. Increasing fenofibrate doses (200-400 mg/day) effectively reduced elevated lipoproteins in all hyperlipoproteinemia types. A transient serum creatinine increase was observed at lower doses, but resolved at 400 mg/day. Fenofibrate (400 mg/day) demonstrated the best lipid-lowering effects, particularly reducing LDL-cholesterol and VLDL-TG. Compared to clofibrate, fenofibrate showed superior lipid-lowering effects, especially for type IV patients. Fenofibrate is an efficient lipid-lowering drug with 400 mg/day as the optimal dosage.
