Overview

A study of 60 patients with early-stage ovarian cancer (T1 M0 N0 and T2 M0 N0) compared surgical treatment alone (group A) to surgery followed by chemotherapy (group B). Five-year survival rates were similar in both groups for stage T1 M0 N0 (94% for group A and 90% for group B) and for stage T2 M0 N0 (100% for group A and 76% for group B). However, after 10 years, the survival rate for stage T1 M0 N0 patients in group B decreased to 62%. While there was no statistically significant difference between the two treatment groups, the study highlights the importance of a comprehensive surgical approach. Ruptured secondary ovarian cancers and ascites significantly reduced survival rates. The study concludes that current chemotherapy regimens did not improve long-term survival for patients with early-stage ovarian cancer.
