Overview

A study of 10-year survival rates for early prostate cancer in the United States showed excellent results. 88% of survivors had a PSA level below 4.0 mg/ml, and 65% had a PSA level below 1.5 ng/ml, indicating that many were clinically and biochemically cured. Combining androgen deprivation and radiation therapy improved outcomes for locally advanced prostate cancer. This treatment approach is now being extended to patients with more advanced early stage disease. Conformal radiation therapy has shown promise in reducing side effects and improving PSA response.
