Diltiazem was found to be more effective than disopyramide in converting paroxysmal atrial tachycardia to sinus rhythm and retarding ventricular response in patients with atrial fibrillation and fluttering. Diltiazem was associated with a small, transient decrease in blood pressure in most patients, but a significant decrease in blood pressure with intense symptoms was observed in one patient who experienced bradycardia.
