Overview

A study of 82 patients with glaucoma compared laser trabeculoplasty to pilocarpine medication. Over a two-year follow-up, laser treatment resulted in a higher success rate with less need for additional therapy. The laser group had lower average and peak intraocular pressure and significantly less variation in daytime pressure. Laser treatment was particularly effective for capsular glaucoma, achieving significantly lower average pressure than medication. In simple glaucoma, both treatments had similar effects. Higher initial intraocular pressure was associated with lower success rates. The study suggests that laser trabeculoplasty may be a more effective treatment for glaucoma compared to pilocarpine medication.
