Overview

Metastatic breast cancer is a challenging condition. Without additional treatment after surgery, about 30% of women with no lymph node involvement and 50% of women with lymph node involvement develop metastatic disease within 10 and 5 years, respectively. Hormonal and chemotherapy treatments have shown to reduce breast cancer death by 10%. New medications like taxanes and aromatase inhibitors are showing promise in clinical trials, and may be used as additional treatments.
