Major Research Findings

Abaloparatide is a new drug used to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Traditionally, it was administered via subcutaneous injection, but recently a transdermal delivery system (sMTS) has been developed. Several studies have shown that abaloparatide sMTS is effective in increasing bone density. 3

Abaloparatide sMTS was found to be less effective than subcutaneous injections in increasing lumbar spine bone density, but it still showed clinically meaningful increases. 3

In addition, abaloparatide has been shown to promote healing of rotator cuff tears in patients with osteoporosis. 7

Moreover, abaloparatide has been shown to have a stronger bone-building effect than teriparatide. 17

Abaloparatide, compared to teriparatide, has been shown to be effective in increasing bone density and strength. 10

Abaloparatide is an effective drug for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. However, injection site reactions have been reported as a side effect. 3
