Main Research Findings

Several studies have shown that armodafinil is an effective drug for treating excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) associated with narcolepsy or obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). 4 , 11 , 2 , 3 , 9

However, armodafinil does not appear to have any beneficial adjunctive effects in addition to sleep restriction therapy alone in treating insomnia disorder. 13 Also, armodafinil has been shown to be effective in treating HIV-related fatigue. 1

Pitolisant is a new drug used for treating narcolepsy and may be more effective than armodafinil in controlling cataplexy. 10
