Original Abstract of the Article

Major Research Findings

Aspirin is widely prescribed for patients at risk of vascular occlusion. However, the optimal dose of aspirin and how to minimize side effects remain unclear. 2 Additionally, while enteric-coated preparations may reduce gastrointestinal symptoms, their antiplatelet effects have not been fully tested. 2 Moreover, there is exceptionally limited data relating to these issues in women.

Reasons for Side Effects

Aspirin inhibits platelet aggregation, which reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke. However, this effect is offset by the potential for aspirin to damage the gastrointestinal lining, causing tinnitus, deafness, and gastrointestinal disturbances. 1 Aspirin can also cause gastrointestinal bleeding.

Common Side Effects

Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a side effect of aspirin. 1 Tinnitus is caused by aspirin damaging the nerves in the ear.

Deafness

Deafness is a side effect of aspirin. 1 Deafness is caused by aspirin damaging the nerves in the ear.

Gastrointestinal Disturbances

Gastrointestinal disturbances are a side effect of aspirin. 1 Gastrointestinal disturbances are caused by aspirin damaging the stomach lining or causing gastrointestinal bleeding.

Side Effect Management

Tinnitus

To manage tinnitus, stopping aspirin intake is crucial. In mild cases, rest may improve tinnitus.

Deafness

To manage deafness, stopping aspirin intake is crucial. In mild cases, rest may improve deafness.

Gastrointestinal Disturbances

To manage gastrointestinal disturbances, stopping aspirin intake is crucial. In mild cases, dietary or medication adjustments may improve gastrointestinal disturbances.

Comparison Between Studies

Commonalities in Studies

Both studies investigated the side effects of aspirin. 1 2

Differences in Studies

The first study investigated methods of collecting aspirin side effects. 1 The second study investigated how aspirin dosage and formulation affect antiplatelet effects and side effects. 2

Cautions for Real-Life Applications

Aspirin effectively reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke, but it comes with potential side effects. 1 2 When considering aspirin intake, consult a doctor to understand the benefits and risks.

Limitations of Current Research

Research on aspirin side effects is still inadequate. Notably, very little information exists on aspirin side effects in women. 2

Future Research Directions

Further research is needed to determine the optimal dosage of aspirin and methods to minimize side effects. 2 Due to the lack of research on aspirin side effects in women, it is essential to prioritize research in this area.

Conclusion

Aspirin effectively reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke, but it comes with potential side effects. 1 2 When considering aspirin intake, consult a doctor to understand the benefits and risks. Research on aspirin side effects is still inadequate, so further research is needed.
