Major Research Findings

Beclomethasone, an inhaled corticosteroid, has been widely used for treating respiratory diseases like asthma and COPD. Numerous studies have investigated its effects and safety profile. 3 Research suggests that beclomethasone is effective in managing asthma symptoms, preventing exacerbations, and improving quality of life. 14 It is often the preferred treatment for patients with moderate to severe persistent asthma. 13 In addition, beclomethasone has shown promise in managing severe asthma, even for patients who have not responded well to other therapies. 26 Studies have also indicated that beclomethasone can be effective in reducing exacerbations and improving quality of life in individuals with COPD. 5

Beclomethasone has shown effectiveness in managing asthma symptoms, including wheezing, chest tightness, and coughing. 27 It can also be effective in reducing the need for other medications, such as oral corticosteroids. 14 When used with long-acting beta-agonists (LABAs), beclomethasone has demonstrated effectiveness in controlling symptoms and preventing exacerbations in individuals with both asthma and COPD. 24

Asthma is a chronic lung condition with recurring episodes of wheezing, chest tightness, and coughing. Inhaled medications are often effective in controlling symptoms, preventing complications, and improving quality of life. While some medications are taken regularly and others for symptom relief, a single inhaler containing both a steroid and a bronchodilator is available (SiT or SMART therapy). This treatment may improve adherence to medication, reducing symptoms and exacerbations, but it's unclear whether it increases side effects from the steroid.

Inhaled corticosteroids are commonly used to treat asthma in children, but concerns have been raised about their potential effect on growth. This study found that low-to-medium doses of inhaled beclomethasone or fluticasone, administered through a valved holding chamber (VHC), did not inhibit growth in children under 5 years old compared to oral montelukast.
