Major research findings

Buprenorphine injection is gaining attention as an effective treatment for opioid dependence. Long-acting buprenorphine injections have the potential to reduce the risk of drug dependence and improve treatment adherence compared to traditional oral buprenorphine. 23 . However, buprenorphine injections have been shown to potentially increase physical discomfort and cravings for drugs for several weeks after administration. 3 . Additionally, buprenorphine injections can cause side effects such as respiratory depression and liver effects. 7 .

Reasons for side effects

The side effects of buprenorphine injections are believed to be related to the pharmacological effects of buprenorphine and individual patient's physical constitution and medical conditions.
