Cefoxitin is an antibiotic that has been shown to be effective in treating a wide range of bacterial infections, including those caused by Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and anaerobic bacteria. 14 However, cefoxitin can also cause side effects, some of which can be serious. Studies have shown that cefoxitin can cause skin rashes, diarrhea, eosinophilia, and elevated liver enzyme levels in some patients. 8 10 1 7 Cefoxitin can also cause vascular pain, nausea, and vomiting in some patients. 3 6

Cefoxitin has shown to be safe and effective in the treatment of respiratory tract infections. 9 In some studies, cefoxitin has also shown to be effective in the prevention of postoperative infections in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. 3
