Major Research Findings

COVID-19 vaccines have been shown to be generally safe and effective in many cases. 7 However, the effectiveness of the vaccines can be reduced in some populations. 13 For example, a study found that multiple myeloma patients with older age, hypogammaglobulinemia, and exposure to ≥4 novel anti-myeloma drugs had lower response rates to the BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine. 13 Additionally, COVID-19 vaccines have been linked to a rare but serious side effect of heart inflammation, called myocarditis. 12 These side effects are usually mild and temporary. 16 However, there is a potential for more severe side effects to occur. 16
