Original Abstract of the Article

Main Research Findings

Eletriptan is a 5-HT1B/1D receptor agonist that is effective for the acute treatment of migraine. 5 , 14 Eletriptan may have some pharmacological and clinical advantages compared to other triptans. 10

Eletriptan has a faster absorption rate and Tmax compared to other triptans. 10 Eletriptan is also faster in onset of action than other triptans, with a better 2-hour headache response and a 2-hour pain-free rate. 10 Eletriptan may have a lower risk of cardiovascular side effects than other triptans. 10 However, although serious cardiovascular events have not yet been reported, it should still be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular risk factors. 10

Eletriptan is effective in patients who previously discontinued oral sumatriptan due to lack of efficacy or intolerable adverse events. 4 Eletriptan has good efficacy and tolerability in patients who have previously taken oral sumatriptan. 4

Reasons for Side Effects

Side effects of eletriptan may be due to pharmacological effects. 9 However, side effects may be unmasked neurological symptoms of the migraine attack after pain relief. 9

Common Side Effects

Drowsiness

Side effects such as drowsiness have been reported after taking eletriptan. 9

Asthenia

Side effects such as asthenia have been reported after taking eletriptan. 9

Other Side Effects

Like other triptans, eletriptan can cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and chest symptoms. 4

Countermeasures for Side Effects

Drowsiness

To reduce drowsiness, it is important to take precautions, such as avoiding driving or operating machinery after taking eletriptan. 9

Asthenia

If you experience side effects such as asthenia, try to reduce the stress on your body, such as resting. 9

Comparison of Studies

Commonalities of Studies

All studies have shown that eletriptan is effective for the acute treatment of migraine. 4 , 14 , 12

Differences in Studies

The incidence of eletriptan side effects varied across studies. 9

Notes on Real-Life Applications

Eletriptan is an effective drug for the acute treatment of migraine, but it can cause side effects. 4 Therefore, it is important to understand the risks of side effects when using eletriptan. 4

Limitations of Current Research

More research on the side effects of eletriptan is needed. 9

Future Research Directions

Further research on the side effects of eletriptan is needed. 9

Conclusion

Eletriptan is an effective drug for the acute treatment of migraine, but it can cause side effects such as drowsiness and asthenia. 4 , 9 It is important to understand the risks of side effects when using eletriptan. 4
