Major Research Findings

Valrubicin is an anti-cancer drug used to treat bladder cancer via intravesical instillation. Several studies have investigated the effectiveness and safety of valrubicin therapy. 2 assessed the effects of a 6-week course of intravesical valrubicin on a tumor intentionally left in the bladder following incomplete transurethral resection of the bladder (TURBT). The study found that valrubicin had a positive effect on reducing the tumor size. 10 reported that valrubicin inhibits the growth of bladder cancer cells. Valrubicin was shown to penetrate the superficial muscle layer of the bladder after intravesical administration. 5 suggested that valrubicin administered immediately after bladder cancer surgery is safe and well-tolerated. 7 revealed that valrubicin acts selectively on bladder cancer cells.
