Overview

In a study of 42 people with panic disorder, three treatment groups were compared: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) alone, CBT with fluvoxamine (FVX), and FVX alone. All groups showed improvement after treatment, but the combination of CBT and FVX resulted in the greatest improvement. The FVX-only group showed less improvement than the other groups. The study suggests that combining medication and psychological treatment is the most effective approach for treating panic disorder. The study also found that the combination group required less FVX than the FVX-only group, which may have implications for treating panic in primary care settings.
