Overview

While the exact cause of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and psoriasis is not fully understood, research suggests that inflammation-causing chemicals, like tumor necrosis factor (TNF), play a role. Common treatments for PsA, such as physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, corticosteroids, and methotrexate, have limited effectiveness. This study found that etanercept, a medication that blocks TNF, was well-tolerated and significantly improved PsA symptoms and skin lesions.
