Overview

A study of 228 women with early breast cancer compared 9 courses of CMF chemotherapy (cyclophosphamide, methotrexate, 5FU) with a combination of 3 courses of MTV (mitomycin C, thiotepa, vindesine) plus 3 courses of EVM (epirubicin, vincristine, methotrexate). CMF had higher local breast relapse rates, but regional and metastatic recurrences, as well as overall survival, were similar in both groups. Toxicity differed, with MTV+EVM causing more alopecia and neurotoxicity, while CMF resulted in greater hematologic toxicity.
