Overview

Highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has significantly improved the treatment of HIV/AIDS. However, protease inhibitor (PI)-based therapies often have undesirable side effects, leading to poor adherence and treatment failure. Newer regimens based on non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs) offer promise but face challenges like low genetic barriers to resistance and cross-resistance.
