Overview

Intravitreous bevacizumab injections were significantly superior to standard care in treating neovascular age-related macular degeneration. At one year, 32% of patients in the bevacizumab group gained ≥15 letters of visual acuity compared to only 3% in the standard care group (P < 0.001). Bevacizumab also resulted in a significantly higher proportion of patients with stable vision and improved mean visual acuity (P < 0.001). Importantly, there were no cases of endophthalmitis or serious uveitis related to bevacizumab treatment.
