Despite effective asthma treatments, asthma still causes significant health problems and healthcare costs. This study investigates whether using the highest doses of asthma medications for long periods is beneficial and if patients and society value the potential, but uncertain, benefits of such an approach. The study compares three treatment strategies aimed at achieving different levels of asthma control: 1) sufficient control, 2) strict control, and 3) strict control based on an additional marker of inflammation (exhaled nitric oxide). The study also assessed the cost-effectiveness of each approach.
