Overview

Methotrexate combined with other DMARDs, biologics, or tofacitinib is more effective than methotrexate alone in treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA), especially in patients who have not responded to methotrexate previously. The combination therapies were found to be well-tolerated and associated with a higher rate of ACR50 response, a measure of disease activity, compared to methotrexate alone. However, the combination therapies did not significantly improve radiographic progression. While some combinations were associated with a higher rate of adverse events, others, like triple therapy, were associated with fewer withdrawals due to adverse events.
