Overview

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by amyloid beta (Aβ) accumulation. Aβ contributes to neuronal degeneration and synaptic dysfunction through oxidative stress. This study investigated the neuroprotective effects of <i>Petasites japonicus</i> leaves (PL) against Aβ<sub>25-35</sub> plaque neurotoxicity. PL protected neurons against Aβ<sub>25-35</sub> plaque-induced cell death and oxidative stress, both in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, PL administration reduced Aβ<sub>25-35</sub> plaque-induced synaptic dysfunction and memory impairment in mice. These findings suggest that PL may be a potential therapeutic agent for AD.
