Overview

This systematic review of 34 studies examined the use of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) for treating headache disorders. Repetitive TMS (rTMS) showed the most promise, with moderate evidence for reducing headache frequency, duration, intensity, abortive medication use, depression, and functional impairment. However, few studies demonstrated superiority over sham treatment. Further high-quality research is needed to confirm the efficacy of TMS and tDCS for specific headache disorders.
