Overview

Topical application of 3% potassium iodide (KI) to areas of inflammation induced by SDS in mice reduced IL-1 and TNF-α gene expression levels, while increasing IL-10 gene expression levels. KI's anti-inflammatory effects were not observed when IL-10 gene expression was reduced by small interfering RNA.
