Overview

This study updates the AANEM's 2009 consensus statement on intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) use in neuromuscular disorders. Based on updated evidence, IVIG is recommended for chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, adult Guillain-Barré Syndrome, multifocal motor neuropathy, dermatomyositis, stiff-person syndrome, and myasthenia gravis exacerbations. However, IVIG is not recommended for inclusion body myositis, post-polio syndrome, IgM paraproteinemic neuropathy, and small fiber neuropathy. The use of IVIG in necrotizing autoimmune myopathy and anti-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-coenzyme A reductase myositis should be considered due to the risk of long-term disability. Insufficient evidence exists for IVIG use in other neuromuscular disorders.
