Overview

A study of 40 patients with ulcerative colitis found that azathioprine, when added to standard corticosteroid treatment, may help prevent relapses over a one-year period. After initial treatment, 11 out of 20 patients taking azathioprine remained symptom-free compared to only 5 out of 20 in the control group.
