A study of 53 patients with advanced lymphocytic lymphoma compared two chemotherapy regimens: a combination of cyclophosphamide, vincristine, and prednisone (CVP) and the same drugs used sequentially (C-V-P). CVP achieved a significantly higher complete remission rate (68%) compared to C-V-P (48%), particularly in patients with nodular lymphoma (81% vs. 46%). Patients achieving complete remission with CVP also had longer remission durations (37+ months) compared to C-V-P (25+ months). The study suggests that CVP is a better initial treatment for nodular lymphoma, but that neither regimen is highly effective for diffuse lymphocytic lymphoma. More effective therapies are needed for this type of lymphoma.
