Overview

A study of 118 patients with mild to moderate acne compared three treatment regimens over 16 weeks. A topical regimen of tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, and water avoidance proved as effective as systemic tetracycline therapy with topical tretinoin, and more effective than systemic tetracycline with abradant cleansers. Dry skin was associated with a lack of improvement in all groups, suggesting its role in both acne development and treatment. The topical regimen was well-tolerated, non-irritating, and less expensive than the other two options.
