In a study of 44 women with polycystic ovary syndrome and excessive hair growth (hirsutism), both finasteride and flutamide were effective in reducing hair growth after six months of treatment. Finasteride reduced the score by 25% and hair diameter by 16-25%, while flutamide reduced the score by 20% and hair diameter by 15.3-22%. Abdominal hair was particularly responsive to both medications. Flutamide also lowered testosterone levels. No serious side effects or changes in blood tests were observed.
