Overview

A study of 471 patients with sepsis compared the effectiveness of ceftazidime (CAZ) monotherapy with an aminoglycoside+(ureido)penicillin combination (AG+PEN). Both regimens showed similar clinical outcomes after 72 hours and 2-4 weeks of treatment. CAZ had a slightly higher bacteriological response but not statistically significant. Adverse events were more common in the CAZ group, but deaths were primarily due to underlying conditions.
