Major Research Findings

Multiple studies have investigated the effectiveness and safety of antibiotics in treating bacterial infections. 29 compared the effects of moxifloxacin and meropenem combination therapy versus meropenem alone in patients with severe sepsis. The results showed no significant difference in the degree of organ failure or in 28-day and 90-day mortality rates.

43 conducted a meta-analysis comparing bactericidal and bacteriostatic antibiotics for pneumonia. The study found no significant difference in clinical cure rates, mortality, bacteriological eradication, treatment failure rates, or relapse rates.

These guidelines provide recommendations for the targeted antibiotic treatment of third-generation cephalosporin-resistant Enterobacterales (3GCephRE) and carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacteria. Due to limited evidence, most recommendations are based on very-low- and low-certainty evidence. The guidelines emphasize the importance of antibiotic stewardship, including carbapenem-sparing options for 3GCephRE and limiting the use of new antibiotics for severe infections.
