Overview

A pooled analysis of safety data from almost 30,000 girls and women aged 10 years and older who received the HPV-16/18 AS04-adjuvanted cervical cancer vaccine Cervarix showed that the vaccine had a favorable safety profile across all age groups (10-14, 15-25, and >25 years). While solicited local and general symptoms were more frequent in the vaccine group compared to controls, compliance with the three-dose schedule was high and did not differ between groups. There were no clinically relevant differences between the vaccine and control groups in rates of serious adverse events (2.8% vs. 3.1%), medically significant conditions (19.4% vs. 21.4%), new onset of chronic diseases (1.7% in both groups), or new onset of autoimmune diseases (0.4% vs. 0.3%). Similarly, no differences were observed in pregnancy outcomes or withdrawal rates due to adverse events or serious adverse events.
