Overview

High-dose methylprednisolone (BMPr) was effective in treating acute graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) in HLA-matched bone marrow transplant recipients, with a 43% complete response rate and an additional 50% partial response. However, BMPr was ineffective in HLA-mismatched recipients. Common side effects included hyperglycemia and steroid-associated gastritis, which responded well to conventional treatment. BMPr appears to be a safe and effective treatment for acute GvHD in HLA-matched recipients, but further research is needed to explore its efficacy in HLA-mismatched recipients.
