Original Abstract of the Article

Major Research Findings

Numerous studies have reported research findings suggesting that acupuncture may be an effective treatment for various conditions. For example, a study found that acupuncture may be effective for treating tinnitus. 115 Another study suggested that acupuncture may be effective for treating chronic low back pain. 83 Additionally, a study found that acupuncture may be effective for treating menopausal symptoms. 114

However, a study found no evidence that acupuncture is effective for treating acute pain. 6 Additionally, a study found that acupuncture may have very strong nonspecific effects. This means that the effects of acupuncture may be due to factors other than the actual acupuncture itself, such as the placebo effect. 62

treatmentまとめ

A study investigated the use of acupuncture for treating tinnitus. 115 Another study compared the effects of acupuncture with a sensory discrimination training component to acupuncture alone for treating chronic low back pain. 83 A study examined the sustained effects of a brief and standardized acupuncture approach on menopausal symptoms. 114 A study assessed the therapeutic effect of acupuncture for dementia. 40 A study evaluated the efficacy of standardized acupuncture treatment for disabling breathlessness. 22 A study compared acupuncture with sham (placebo) acupuncture for treatment of nausea of pregnancy. 17 A study examined the efficacy of auricular acupuncture in decreasing pain intensity in cancer patients. 21 A study compared the effect of real acupuncture and sham acupuncture in the treatment of temporomandibular joint myofascial pain. 31 A study observed the therapeutic effect of manual acupuncture, electroacupuncture (EA), auricular acupuncture and bloodletting therapies combined with orthogonal design for migraine patients. 82 A study sought to determine whether a 2-point electroacupuncture protocol (verum acupuncture) would be beneficial for major depressive disorder, in comparison to needling at nonchannel scalp points with sham electrostimulation (control acupuncture). 70 A study compared the clinical curative effect of muscle tension staged acupuncture and conventional acupuncture in the treatment of stroke hemiplegia. 104 A study examined the effect of different acupuncture frequency and duration of needle retention on idiopathic facial paralysis, and optimized the acupuncture treatment plan. 108 A study investigated the efficacy of infrared thermography in distinguishing response to true acupuncture as compared to nonacupoint cutaneous and muscular needling (sham or minimal acupuncture), as well as without manipulation. 56 A study evaluated the patients' sensations during and after laserneedle versus metal needle acupuncture. 50 A study investigated the efficacy and safety of auricular acupuncture for depression. 127 A study aimed to find the effects of the traits of personality on the objective outcome when different acupuncture techniques were used in treating patients with Bell's palsy. 94 A study observed the clinical efficacy of acupuncture in the treatment of hypertension patients. 66 A study assessed the therapeutic effect of acupuncture on depression. 44 A study explored the combination of radiotherapy with two types of acupuncture treatment (ROSETTA). 98 A study systematically evaluated the efficacy difference between warming acupuncture and other acupuncture methods in the treatment of primary obesity. 103 A study compared real acupuncture with placebo acupuncture in patients undergoing IVF treatment. 49 A study undertook a systematic review of RCTs evaluating laser acupuncture as a primary intervention. 60 A study assessed the compliance, side effects, impact on course, and acceptance of discharge recommendations for patients with comorbid substance abuse problems who were offered treatment with auricular acupuncture. 8 A study evaluated the effectiveness of acupuncture for treatment-induced symptoms in breast cancer patients. 117 A study compared the evaluate efficacy of acupuncture versus sham acupuncture in migraine treatment. 120 A study evaluated the efficacy of acupuncture treatments in treating facial melasma, contrasting treatments involving facial acupuncture with facial/body acupuncture. 91 A study compared traditional acupuncture (TA) to combined acupuncture (CA) which consists of TA and EA for treating headache, trigeminal neuralgia, and retro-auricular pain in facial palsy. 68 A study compared the therapeutic effects of opposing needling and routine acupuncture for treatment of poststroke shoulder-hand syndrome. 53 A study assessed the efficacy of manual acupuncture as prophylactic treatment for acupuncture naive patients with episodic migraine without aura. 110 A study observed the effects of acupuncture for treatment of intractable insomnia. 58 A study synthesized existing qualitative evidence on how trial participants randomized to acupuncture and sham acupuncture groups experience non-specific effects, regardless of the types of medical condition investigated. 112 A study summarized important invited lectures in the area of clinical research. 47

ベネフィットとリスク

ベネフィット要約

Many studies have suggested that acupuncture may be an effective treatment for various conditions. These conditions include tinnitus, chronic low back pain, menopausal symptoms, headache, trigeminal neuralgia, temporomandibular joint myofascial pain, depression, insomnia, facial palsy, shoulder-hand syndrome, cancer pain, nausea during pregnancy, obesity, shortness of breath, dementia, hypertension, substance abuse, and treatment-related symptoms in breast cancer patients.

リスク要約

Acupuncture is generally considered a safe treatment, but some risks have been reported. These risks include bleeding, infection, pain, bruising, and nerve damage. It is important to choose a qualified acupuncturist when receiving acupuncture treatment.

研究間の比較

研究の共通点

Many studies have suggested that acupuncture may involve nonspecific effects, such as the placebo effect. Additionally, many studies have suggested that the effects of acupuncture vary greatly from person to person.

研究の相違点

Each study uses different treatments and targets different conditions. Additionally, the research designs and methodologies vary. Therefore, it can be difficult to directly compare the results of different studies.

結果の一貫性や矛盾点について

There is no clear consensus on the effectiveness of acupuncture. Some studies have found that acupuncture is effective, while other studies have found no effect. These inconsistencies could be due to differences in research design and methodology, the conditions being targeted, and patient characteristics.

実生活への応用について注意点

While studies suggest that acupuncture may be effective for treating a range of conditions, these studies are preliminary and further research is needed. It is essential to choose a qualified acupuncturist when receiving acupuncture treatment. Additionally, acupuncture may not be effective for all conditions. It is important to consult with a doctor to determine if acupuncture is the right treatment for you.

現在の研究の限界点

Current research has not fully elucidated the effects of acupuncture. Future research should use more rigorous designs and methodologies. Additionally, physiological research is needed to understand the mechanisms of action of acupuncture.

今後必要とされる研究の方向性

Future research should focus on understanding the mechanisms of action of acupuncture, clarifying its effectiveness for different conditions, and further investigating its safety.

結論

Research findings suggest that acupuncture may be an effective treatment for various conditions. However, the effects of acupuncture can vary greatly from person to person, and it may not be effective for all conditions. It is essential to choose a qualified acupuncturist when receiving acupuncture treatment. Consult with a doctor to determine if acupuncture is the right treatment for you.
