Ticagrelor is a medication used to prevent blood clots. It is often prescribed after a heart attack or stroke. One study found that ticagrelor was more effective than clopidogrel at reducing inflammation in the blood clots of patients with a heart attack. 20 . Another study found that ticagrelor was better at improving blood flow in the tiny blood vessels of the heart compared to clopidogrel. 18 .
