Overview

This study compared the safety and clinical outcomes of chlorthalidone and hydrochlorothiazide in older adults with varying kidney function. Chlorthalidone was associated with a higher risk of eGFR decline, cardiovascular events, and hypokalemia compared to hydrochlorothiazide. However, the risk of hypokalemia was lower in participants with reduced kidney function. These findings suggest that there is no evidence to prefer chlorthalidone over hydrochlorothiazide.
