Overview

Simethicone, a defoaming agent, can improve gastric mucosal visualization (GMV) during upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. In a study of 110 patients, those who received simethicone had a much higher rate of adequate GMV (61.5%) compared to those who received a placebo (2.1%). The procedure time, patient satisfaction, and side effects were similar between the groups.
