Cromolyn sodium ophthalmic solution has shown to be effective in treating seasonal allergic conjunctivitis. 17 , 15 , 16 , 13 , 4 These studies indicate that cromolyn sodium ophthalmic solution can reduce symptoms such as inflammation, itching, and redness of the conjunctiva. Additionally, reported that cromolyn sodium eye drops are effective in treating seasonal headshaking in horses. Cromolyn sodium has a mast cell stabilizing effect, which suppresses allergic reactions. 10 , 3 On the other hand, 12 reported that cromolyn sodium eye drops might trigger asthma attacks in patients with asthma.
