Major Research Findings

Nabumetone, a COX-2 inhibitor, has been shown to have anti-proliferative effects in chronic myeloid leukemia cell lines. 17 . Nabumetone has been found to be effective in treating rheumatoid arthritis and is comparable to naproxen in efficacy. 9 . Long-term use of nabumetone has been shown to be safe and effective. 2 . However, nabumetone can cause gastrointestinal side effects. 7 . 9 .

Reasons for Side Effects

Nabumetone, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, which are essential for reducing pain and inflammation. 11 . Prostaglandins also play a protective role in the stomach lining.
