Main Research Findings

Teduglutide, a GLP-2 analog, has emerged as a promising treatment for short bowel syndrome (SBS). Research indicates that teduglutide can improve intestinal function and enhance nutrient absorption in SBS patients. 7 , 11 Moreover, teduglutide has shown potential in reducing intestinal inflammation and improving intestinal barrier integrity. 14 , 19 These effects hold promise for improving quality of life and reducing the need for parenteral support in SBS patients. 10 , 11

Beyond intestinal effects, teduglutide has demonstrated the ability to protect intestinal stem cells from damage caused by radiation therapy. 15 Furthermore, it has shown protective effects against intestinal damage induced by TNF-α/Act D in animal models. 17

Importantly, research indicates that teduglutide does not have a significant impact on cardiac electrical activity. 18
