Main Research Findings

Telaprevir is a protease inhibitor used to treat hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Many studies have shown that telaprevir is effective in treating HCV infection. 12 showed that the rapid virological response (RVR) rate in HCV-infected patients receiving telaprevir-based triple therapy was 92%. Also, 1 demonstrated that triple therapy with telaprevir, pegylated interferon, and ribavirin improved antiviral efficacy in patients with chronic hepatitis C (CH-C). Furthermore, 8 revealed a potential resistance pathway against telaprevir, suggesting a promising path for future drug development.

However, telaprevir is associated with potential side effects. 7 found that hematological adverse effects, such as thrombocytopenia and neutropenia, were commonly observed during telaprevir treatment. Also, reported that dermatological adverse effects can occur during telaprevir therapy. Telaprevir may also have an impact on kidney function, and 5 found that a certain number of patients experienced decreased kidney function during telaprevir treatment.
