Acupuncture treatment in gastrointestinal diseases: a systematic review.

Overview

This review of 18 studies found that acupuncture improved quality of life (QoL) in people with gastrointestinal disorders, regardless of whether real or sham acupuncture was used. Real acupuncture was more effective than sham acupuncture in reducing symptoms of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. However, the quality of research on other gastrointestinal disorders was low.
