Overview

Dysbiosis, an imbalance in the gut bacteria, can cause a variety of problems. This study investigated three different approaches to restoring gut bacteria balance in people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) without constipation: a short course of antibiotics followed by a nutritional supplement, a low-FODMAP diet, or a medium-term treatment with a specific probiotic. The probiotic treatment resulted in similar improvements in IBS symptoms and gut function as the other two treatments, and also led to a significant improvement in quality of life.
