Main research findings

Vinblastine is a drug that has an effect of inhibiting the growth of cancer cells. 18 elucidated the mechanism by which vinblastine inhibits cancer cell growth by binding to α, β-tubulin. 13 revealed that natural products containing vinblastine regulate the expression of microRNA-21, thereby suppressing the growth of cancer cells.

Reasons for side effects

The side effects of vinblastine are mainly due to its effect of inhibiting cell division. 12 states that vinblastine binds to tubulin, which is necessary for cell division, and inhibits cell division. This effect affects not only cancer cells but also normal cells, resulting in side effects.

Common side effects

Myelosuppression

According to 12 and 5 , vinblastine can cause myelosuppression, which can reduce the number of white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. This can make you more susceptible to infections, develop anemia, or bleed easily.

Neurotoxicity

12 states that vinblastine can cause neurotoxicity, which can cause symptoms such as peripheral neuropathy, paralysis, and sensory abnormalities.

Gastrointestinal disorders
